2500 years ago, Siddhartha Gautam was enlightened at the age of 35 and became ‘BUDDHA’. He taught methods to develop lasting peace and happiness by controlling the mind. Siddhartha Gautam was born in a royal family in Lumbini, Nepal in 563 BC. In the age of 29, he realized that wealth and luxury does not stay forever and it is not a guarantee of happiness, so he explored the world to find the key of human happiness. After six years exploration he finally got the way and was enlightened. After enlightenment, he was called as ‘Buddha’ and he spend his rest of life to teach others.
Buddha was not a god, nor did he ever claim to be. He said that he was just a man who tries to teach people a path of life from his own experience. So you can say that ‘Buddhism’ is less a religion and more of a philosophy of life. Buddhism teaches us peace, wisdom, understanding and awareness of thoughts and actions so we can live a better peaceful and happy life.
